We offer accomodation in little houses situated in a ecological farmhouse inside na Natural Reserve for Bird Migrations in Algarve. In summer or winter, Castro Matim (in Algarve) has a wonderful weather, cultural activities, and charming village people. It's know for its 13th century castle and hand harvested sea-salt tradicional culture, besides the natural reserve or its white-sand beaches and blue ocean. Our family runs a small agricultural enterprise manufactoring biological iogurtes, cheese and other products. Besides that we have renewed some very olg houses in the middle of our lovely countryside that we rent to those who want to come and meet our small paradise here in the south of Portugal, has we call it, the door of the mediterranean culture, olives, wine, garlic and simple living.

Do ask about the seasalt work
You can visit, although you must find someone working there first, the roman age sea salt SALINAS. These milenar industry has been kepted through generations since the decline of the roman empire, and still continues has artesanal has ever. SeaSalt and SeaSalt Flower are hand harvested by a small number of resistent and inlove artisans that kept the knowledge through the years in they're families. The best thing to do is walk to the Salinas and try to find someone working there. Then just ask for 'what is that? and they are proud to tell you how it works...
Do go to Cacela Velha beach.
You'll have to ask local fisherman to cross the 'ria' in his (1,5) boat and you'll see the most beautiful beach of Sotavento (Eastern Algarve). Be aware that it's a virgin island (no houses, current water, no restaurants or bars to eat) so take some water and fruit to eat with you. At 8p.m the last fisherman comes to pick you up...be carefull not to forget time, otherwise you'll get stuck there.
Don't try to go party in town.
You can try but everything closes at 9pm. For that choose Monte Gordo ou Ayamonte (the nearest Spanish city - 2km) that have nice nightlife and provide different choices.
Do try to get a river boat travel to Alcoutim
Although it's one of Europe poorest districts, that happens because its so protected that's almost impossible to settle a industry there. The spot is beautiful: a two white twin cities smile to Guadiana river, one Portuguese, the other Spanish. You can talk to people really in love with their landscape and culture. There are abundant museums about tradicional handcrafted art such has Rendas de Bilros or Cestas
Do try the fish restaurant called MURALHA in Vila Real de Santo Antonio
The best fish ever!! Ask for ANCHOVA ESCALADA. This is a special restaurant in front of Guadiana River that belongs to a fisherman's family. You'll have to search for it a while because it's kinda hidden beneath old abandoned tuna factories.
